On May 24, a new community third place broke ground in Dublin, CA.

The 14,000 SF BLVD Recreation Center arranges a series of indoor/outdoor pavilions around active and casual uses, offering a “third place” for community residents to socialize, celebrate, work, and work out.

A series of pavilions enclosing an outdoor pool were designed and programmed to entice community use and serve diverse resident needs. In addition to a swimming pool, exercise room, clubhouse with indoor/outdoor kitchen, fireplace lounge, and cafe, the project includes a “Loft” co-working and conference space, powered to support online collaboration and in-person events alike.

“This amenity is relatively unique among master-planned communities,” said Group 4 principal and director of interiors Andrea Gifford. “It wouldn’t work for every community in every city, but is a perfect fit for Boulevard with its proximity to BART and connectivity to the entire Bay Area. The many Boulevard residents who work in the tech and creative industries will naturally gravitate to The Loft.”

The Center also celebrates green design including passive strategies and thoughtful segmentation allowing unused pavilions to enter a “sleep mode.”

“In a world that can be all too disconnected,” said Gifford to attendees at the groundbreaking, “it was a privilege to work with the Boulevard team to create a place centered on connecting, gathering, and well-being.”

The Rec Center will serve the surrounding Boulevard development – a master-planned community of single and multi-family homes with elegant density and access to the Bay Area.
