A variety of indoor and outdoor spaces will serve all ages in this growing community
On Thursday, January 23, the 32,000 SF Elk Grove Community Center became the second project to open at the city’s new civic center, dubbed District56.
Hundreds of community members turned out to enjoy the new center and the day’s speeches and activities. The Elk Grove Citizen reported particularly touching reactions from members of the area’s veteran groups – some having served in World War II. The Center will now serve as a new home for these groups, as well as dedicated space for senior activities and broader community events of every size.
A divisible events hall complete with catering kitchen and indoor-outdoor connections joins an array of classrooms, art and music rooms, and multipurpose spaces to dramatically increase the city’s activities programming and community rental options. The spaces are arranged – following extensive outreach and planning – for simultaneous use. A cafĂ© space adjoins the Commons, a broad promenade designed to support markets and fairs. Smaller outdoor spaces can accommodate (and warm/shade) less formal get-togethers year-round.
Here are a few pics from the opening. More to come!
