Rec + Aquatic Center Breaks Ground

A long-awaited community dream takes shape as the City of San Bruno celebrates groundbreaking

Not too far in the future, San Bruno residents will be able to enjoy a welcoming, new community recreation and aquatic center in San Bruno City Park. The project is now under construction after it broke ground on August 27.

This virtual tour video provides a sneak preview of what the center will look like when complete. Natural daylighting and exterior views of greenery enliven the spacious gym, indoor pool, dance studio, meeting rooms, and other fitness, wellness, and community event spaces. Flexibility has been central to the design to ensure the best use of each space. Thus, the indoor pool offers year-round opportunities for swimming, while the flexible gym includes high school regulation and minor play courts for a variety of uses.  Outdoor amenities will include a seasonal outdoor pool and splash pad, a gazebo donated by the Rotary Club, and a new civic plaza for both formal and informal community gatherings.

Most of the funding for the $60 million project stems from the San Bruno Community Foundation, which has stewarded PG&E’s restitution payment. Group 4 has shepherded and developed the project since the conceptual design phase.

We celebrate this groundbreaking with the City of San Bruno! Read more about the project here: https://g4arch.net/portfolio/san-bruno-rec-aquatics/.
