APWA recognizes the Center at District56 in Elk Grove for its outstanding design and partnerships

We are excited to share the news that the American Public Works Association’s Sacramento Chapter has honored the Center at District56 with a Project of the Year Award. The jury commended the “excellent management, administration, design, sustainability, construction and community relations, as well as the strong alliance among the managing agency and the designer, contractor and construction management team who worked together to complete this project.”

This joint community and senior center is the result of a remarkable partnership between the City of Elk Grove, Cosumnes Community Services District, Senior Center of Elk Grove (a non-profit senior center operator), American Legion Post 233, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Marine Corps League. Thanks to extensive community outreach, our design carefully balances the needs of different users and provides welcoming, multipurpose spaces for community programs and event rentals. As a result, the Center is brimming with activity: seniors quilt, sing karaoke, and play Mahjong alongside veteran meetings, civic classes for teens, multicultural festival events, and private celebrations. To top it off, the Center is certified LEED-NC Gold and is designed to be zero net energy with eco-friendly materials, on-site renewable energy production, and more.
