This year marks a significant milestone for Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning, Inc., as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. From our humble beginnings in 1974 to our current position as a leader in community-focused architecture, our journey has been one of growth, innovation, and collaboration.

From the outset, Group 4 has embraced a low-ego, highly collaborative approach to design and engagement. This philosophy has been the cornerstone of our work, allowing us to create spaces that truly reflect the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve. Our studio in South San Francisco has been the epicenter of this collaborative spirit, fostering an environment where ideas are freely exchanged, and every team member’s contribution is valued.

Over the past five decades, Group 4 has evolved and expanded, extending our reach beyond California to serve public clients across the country. Our commitment to community engagement and participatory design has remained steadfast, enabling us to build lasting partnerships with clients and stakeholders. These relationships have been instrumental in shaping our projects, from landmark community centers, civic buildings, and libraries to transit and service  facilities.

As we look back on the past 50 years, we are proud of the impact we’ve made in the communities we’ve served. We’ve grown into a firm recognized for its ability to navigate complex public projects with a focus on creating places where people can gather, imagine, and grow.

Today, as a majority women-owned firm, we continue to champion the values that have guided us from the start—collaboration, innovation, and community-centered design. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to these principles as we look forward to the next 50 years of creating spaces that inspire and connect communities.
