CHABOT COLLEGE LIBRARY AND LEARNING CONNECTION

Hayward, CA

The touchstone of Chabot College’s Measure A bond projects is the $91 million, 100,000 square foot Library + Learning Connection (LLC) – a new landmark and icon in the heart of the campus’ Grand Court. The project will develop innovative, student- and faculty-responsive services and spaces, including the interdivisional Learning Connection Center, computer labs, study and collaboration spaces, meeting rooms, staff training spaces, Multicultural Research Center, maker space, and flexible event spaces. The LLC will fully integrate with the rest of the campus, activating the Grand Court and introducing outdoor learning spaces to further broaden Chabot College’s educational resources.

The planning process for the new LLC focused on “non-traditional” students, who are becoming the norm in community colleges. These students bring diverse cultural assets and lived experiences that disrupt the traditional narrative of library and learning neutrality, and inspire re-imagined library environments. A collaborative, multidisciplinary planning process engaged these students as well as library and District leadership, Learning Communities representatives, and the campus community-at-large.

The Library + Learning Connection project is scheduled to open in 2024. Group 4 is the Architect of Record and co-designing the project with HMC Architects.
