A civic beacon offers a place for every community member and group to gather and grow.
DAYTON NORTHWEST LIBRARY
Dayton, OH
In 2013, Dayton Metro Library transitioned to people-focused service model as part of a systemwide capital improvement program. The Northwest Library fully embodies DML’s new values through its public presence, variety of tailored and flexible spaces, innovative space programming, and open, light-filled experience. DML envisioned Northwest Library as a “community living room” and civic beacon: a nexus of connection, engagement, and active learning.
Since opening, the library has received great praise for its community impact. Dr. Hazel Rountree, a Dayton Board of Education member and area resident, stated that the library “has now become the heart of the community…. A dying community has been brought to life.”
